Cookies
I’ve been making these cookies almost every year since I was 5 and they’re the highlight of my Christmas. The recipe is from an old Gooseberry Patch cookbook, which I thought was lost until I unearthed it from an old website from 2006. My husband and I like to bake these high so we can turn them into weird creatures. As a kid, my mom never let me make anything more than a gingerbread man because my strokes of culinary genius "weren't very christmassy". Candy googly eyes complete the look, but we use them in different ways. My husband likes to use more eyes and make aliens, while I make little faces.
The seasonal nature of this page means that I'll only add to it once a year. Who knows, though, maybe I'll do these for halloween?
Note: you will need to chill the dough for a few hours or else it will stick to the rolling pin! Also, don't leave them in the oven too long. You want these cookies soft and squishy.

Nora spent her second christmas with us harnessing the essence of a catholic martyr. Sadly we don't have any close-ups of the cookies for this year, as two stoners with a platter of funny-looking cookies leads to untold tragedy. As for Nora, we don't leave her out of the fun. Her christmas highlight is getting to open presents. We give her a nylabone and she gets to go ham ripping up the paper. We also let her have some scrambled egg, which she also gets on each birthday.

These narrowly escaped becoming a statistic, but we restrained ourselves long enough to take pictures. Now that you can get a good look, you can see that we're basically treating the rules of baking as a suggestion. Each cookie gets to be its own individual, complete with hopes, dreams and amblyopia.

Finally, a proper photoshoot! This is where you can really see the difference between our methods. You'll also notice that we swap out the colors per yer, here being this nice wisteria hue.

Pearl said one of the cookies here looks pregnant (see: the sauropod looking one with the extra "figure" in its belly). This year's color was a nice sky blue, the color of our tears when we had none left.

The first "not-monster" cookies, and the first to make us relive being on the Oregon Trail. We accidentally used expired spices and couldn't get out the bathroom for a day or so.
